I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for NaNoWriMo this year!
Do I have enough projects to work on as it is? Of course I do. Is that stopping me? NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST.
I’ve decided to work on this epic-fantasy idea that’s been nagging me for a while. It’s got a male lead (I know, a miracle for me), and has some dark themes in it, which has been surprising. I’m thinking his race will be a half-bird kind of people, but the world is going to be huge. It might even be another trilogy. But it’s going to be chock full of twisted ideas, darkness, and lies (perhaps my brand?), I at least know that. Maybe think gender-flipped The Beauty and the Beast.
So what are you guys doing for prep? Surprisingly, I’ve gone this whole prep time WITHOUT buying a new notebook! *gasp* I know. The self-restraint.
Actually, I’ve gone digital! Hahahahahaha calm down, not completely. I still brainstorm in my notebooks, I don’t think I’ll ever not do that. But I’ve taken to indexing important details digitally ahead of time this go round so I’m not scrambling, because I’m pretty sure this will be the most expansive fantasy I’ve written.
Still, sticking to what I’ve done before, I’m trying to approach it without delivering too much information at once, and I think the strategy I’ve developed for it should help. I’m going to introduce things natuarally and gradually, so it feels natural for the reader as it’s being introduced. At least that’s the idea.
As for characters, I think I can see their personalities pretty clearly, but as my usual is now, I’m going to let them stretch out in #CharacterChaos on Twitter to get their feet wet! I’m telling you guys, it’s been the best way to character develop so far for me. Nothing has worked nearly as good!
I’m actually thinking about writing a post about how much Character Chaos has helped me develop characters, and why I’m soooo excited to see how many people decide to play over the month of November (our Character Chaos anniversary and the month of NaNoWriMo!!).
Other than that, I’m doing my usual, preparing Pinterest boards, I have my playlist created on Spotify. The only thing I haven’t done yet is create the aesthetic! I’ll save that for November, but when I do, I’ll post it here and on my Instagram!
So that’s about it for me, I’ll see you guys later! Have a great week!
