Why I’m leaving Wattpad

So. This is a decision I’ve been a little hesitant to make, but I’ve also had the feeling that it’s time.

I’ll still have a profile up, but for the most part, I’m taking down all my stories from Wattpad. Don’t worry, I haven’t been the victim of plagiarism or bullying or anything like that. But in the direction I want to go in with my writing, Wattpad doesn’t look like a smart addition to that plan. I want to continue publishing my books, and putting them on Wattpad beforehand would be counter-productive to my situation. Whether through self-publishing or traditional publishing, neither of those routes allow for my content to be on Wattpad, so it’d be sort of pointless to put up a story as I’m writing it, only to take it down as soon as it’s finished.

However, even though I won’t be posting my stories on there, I’ll still visit to read my friend’s books. And if you’re interested in reading some of my works for free, I’ll probably be posting excerpts here on the blog, and I’ve been thinking about sharing some of my short stories as well!

BUT I would be lying if I said that all the new changes to the site, especially with the ranking system, lack of visibility for authors, etc. hasn’t influenced this decision. I would be willing to post some form of content exclusive to Wattpad, if I weren’t so confused by how the website even works now, haha. I really hope Wattpad changes how they operate in the near future, because as it is? It’s veeeery difficult for new authors to get their feet wet when all of those algorithm thingies push them down and out of sight all the time.

In the meantime, I’m going to be working on Dragon Bones, editing Broken Oceans, starting on the Dragon Bones sequel, and tinkering at a new idea that’s been a-brewing in my head, so I’ll definitely be busy! I’ll tweet about it when I’m ready to look for Betas on Broken Oceans, so look out for that on my Twitter if you’re interested.

I wanted to tell you guys before I left because I feel like I sort of met the writing community on Twitter because we had Wattpad in common. And I didn’t wanna drop out before you guys knew why.

So I’ll catch you on the flip side 😉
